ROUND 1 RECAP

JORDAN, Minn. – The Carleton College men’s golf team struggled in round two of the MIAC Championships, dropping one spot in the standings to now sit in ninth place after coming in with a team total of 327. The Knights were able to move up to seventh for total pars, but an excess of big numbers and only seven birdies over two days prevented Carleton from moving up the leaderboard.

“The chances for an improved finish over past years for the Knights was washed away in a rain storm during the second round,” said Carleton head coach Jerry Ericksen.

After a heavy rainstorm, during which Carleton played nine holes, play was suspended and most teams were able to play in clear weather.

“Only Perry Strong was able to keep his game together and shoot a second straight 77,” commented Ericksen on the tough conditions the team faced in round two.

Strong (Sr./Cincinnati, Ohio/Loveland) is one of only 12 players in the field were able to match or improve upon their first-round stroke count. He had a steady day carding 14 pars and is currently tied for sixth in Par 4 scoring average.

Junior David Perl (Glencoe, Ill./ New Trier) carded an 81 for the second round, while Evan Anderson (Sr./Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater), Avery Tribus (Jr./Madison, Wis./Edgewood), and Aaron Sparby (Jr./Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln) rounded out the scorecard for the Knights by finishing the day with rounds of 84, 85, and 96 shots.

Due to concerns over the weather forecast, a final determination of tee times for Monday’s final round will be made during a morning meeting of the conference men’s golf coaches. Whenever play does resume, live scoring will be once again be available via links that can be found on Knights Online.
