ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The Carleton men's soccer team scored a pair of big wins last week to push its unbeaten streak to nine, and leading the way was sophomore Branden McGarrity (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South). The Knights forward delivered the game-winning goal in each victory, and tallied three goals total in the two big wins. For his performance, McGarrity was named the MIAC Men's Soccer Athlete-of-the-Week.
McGarrity started his big week by heading in a long distance pass for the game-winner in Wednesday's 2-0 home win over Macalester. Saturday, McGarrity was even better, scoring both goals in a 2-0 win at home against Hamline. The forward scored both his goals in the first half. McGarrity's nine total goals - all coming in the last 10 games - are tied for the fourth-most in the MIAC this season and his six goals in conference play rank second in the league. McGarrity's 28 career goals in one-plus seasons rank second in Carleton history, and his 64 points are the fourth-most in the program's record book.
The Knights are 11-1-3 overall and 5-1-1 with 16 points in conference play, and they're currently tied for second place in the MIAC. Carleton will try to push the unbeaten streak to 10 this Saturday when it travels to Moorhead to face Concordia at 1 p.m.
