Men’s Soccer to Open NCAA Tourney vs. Westminster

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – This coming weekend, the Carleton College men’s soccer team (15-2-3) will make its second consecutive and third-ever appearance in the NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Championship. The Knights are slated to play Westminster College (Mo.) as part of a four-team “regional” with the first- and second-round games held at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn. The Carleton-Westminster contest is scheduled for a 1:30 p.m. start on Saturday, Nov. 16.

The Knights tied for second in the MIAC during the regular season and earned the conference’s automatic berth in the national tournament by winning the MIAC Playoffs for the second time in school history.

Westminster (11-8-1) is making its second-ever trip to the NCAA Championships, the previous visit coming back in 2002. This year, the Blue Jays finished in a three-way tie atop the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference standings and earned an automatic bid to the championships by winning the SLIAC postseason tourney.

In the other opening round matchup, College of St. Scholastica (17-2-3) will take on host Gustavus (13-3-1). St. Scholastica will be making its second consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and third overall. The Saints earned the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference's (UMAC) automatic qualifier. Gustavus posted a 10-0-0 record during the MIAC’s regular season but was upset during the semifinals of the MIAC Playoffs. The Gusties are making their 10th all-time trip to the NCAA Championships after securing one of the 19 at-large bids into this year’s tournament

Saturday’s victors will meet in a second-round match on Sunday, with the winner advancing to the NCAA Sectionals (“Sweet Sixteen”) the following weekend.

First Round - Saturday, Nov. 16
1:30 p.m. -- Westminster vs. Carleton
11;00 a.m. -- St. Scholastica vs. Gustavus Adolphus

Second Round - Sunday, Nov. 17
1:30 p.m. – St. Scholastica/Gustavus Adolphus winner vs. Westminster/Carleton winner



Tickets are required for all fans and will be available for purchase on game day at the gate (located on the east side of the stadium, behind the bleachers). Admission prices established by the NCAA are:

$6 – General Admission
$3 – Seniors and Students
$2 - Children ages 3 to 12
Free - Children 2 and under

Gustavus has multiple athletic events on Saturday, so fans should allow extra time for parking. The recommended options are parking lots A (east of soccer field and Lund Center), P (southwest of the football stadium) and K (located near the Swanson Tennis Center)
