NORTHFIELD, Minn. – This weekend, the No. 25-ranked Carleton College men’s soccer team (15-1-3) will make its fourth-ever appearance in the NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Championships. The Knights will face Transylvania University (Ky.) as part of a three-team “regional” with the first- and second-round games held at the University of Chicago. The Carleton-Transylvania game will start at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10.

The Knights finished second in the MIAC during the regular season and earned the conference’s automatic berth in the national tournament by winning the MIAC Playoffs for the third time in school history. Carleton also played in the NCAA Championships in 2008 (advancing to the “Sweet Sixteen”), 2012, and 2013.

Transylvania (8-4-6) is making its second consecutive trip to the NCAA Championships and eighth overall visit to the tournament. The Pioneers started the 2018 campaign slowly, owning a 2-4-4 record on Oct. 3. Transylvania righted the ship and went 6-0-1 the rest of the way to finish second in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference standings. The Pioneers eventually earned the HCAC automatic bid to the national tournament by edging Rose-Hulman and regular-season champion Hanover College on penalty kicks in both the conference tournament semifinals and the finals.

Saturday’s victor will meet host University of Chicago in a second-round match on Sunday, Nov. 11, with the winner of that contest advancing to the NCAA Sectionals (“Sweet Sixteen”) the following weekend. The Maroons are the No. 4 team in the D3soccer.com Top 25 and are participating in the NCAA Championships for the fifth consecutive season and the 10th time in program history.

First Round - Saturday, Nov. 10
5 p.m. – No. 25 Carleton College vs. Transylvania University
Second Round - Sunday, Nov. 11
5 p.m. – Carleton/Transylvania winner vs. University of Chicago.
