NORTHFIELD, Minn. – To say that the Carleton College men’s soccer team had to settle for a scoreless draw with Augsburg University would be an understatement. The Knights built a whopping 27-6 advantage in shots throughout the afternoon and hit the pipes twice, but they were unable to secure the breakthrough goal.

While Carleton (10-1-2, 3-1-2 MIAC) only receives one point in the standings instead of the preferred three, the result did extend the Knights’ unbeaten streak to nine games. Even after being forced to play a man down for the final 15 minutes of overtime, the Knights still pressed the attack and out-shot the visitors by a 4-to-1 ratio over that time.

Nicolas Graese (Sr./Verona, Wis./Verona) nearly put Carleton in front with his shot off the left post in the 40th minute. Alvin Bierley’s (So./Santa Cruz, Calif./Leland) shot off a deflected free kick clanged off the crossbar in the 72nd minute.

The last great chance of the match came in the 106th minute when an unmarked Marco da Cunha (Fy./San Francisco, Calif./San Francisco University) missed getting onto the end of a Mark Roth (Sr./Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) cross by mere inches.

Carleton goalkeeper Aaron Forman (So./Los Angeles, Calif./Windward) was forced to make two saves in registering his fifth shutout of the season.

Today’s result keeps the Knights sixth in the MIAC standings. Carleton had four matches remaining in the regular season, beginning with a re-scheduled contest against Hamline University on Wednesday, Oct. 17. Action at Bell Field is slated to being at 4 p.m. Live video and stats will be available via Knights Online.
