NORTHFIELD, Minn. -- The Carleton College men’s soccer team took another step toward clinching a playoff berth after claiming a 1-0 victory over visiting Bethel University on Saturday. It was the Knights’ fourth consecutive triumph, all of them shutouts.
Carleton (10-6-0, 4-4-0 MIAC) out-shot the visitors by a 22-10 margin, but the lone goal of the contest came in the 68th minute. Kohl Sparrman (Jr./Apple Valley, Minn./Rosemount) was taken down in the box, and William Lanzillo (Jr./Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West) stepped up and slotted home the penalty kick for his third goal of the campaign.
Brandon Hilliard (Sr./Anoka, Minn./Totino Grace) notched two saves in registering his sixth shutout of the year.
The Knights host Saint Mary’s University for a 3:30 p.m. match on Tuesday, Oct. 24. A victory in that contest would clinch a postseason berth for Carleton. A live video webcast and live stats will be provided by Knights Online.
