MORRIS, Minn. — Trevor Freeland (Jr./DeKalb, Ill./DeKalb) notched his first career game-winning goal when he pounded home an early scoring chance in a 1-0 victory for Carleton College men’s soccer at Minnesota-Morris.
Freeland’s tally came in the sixth minute on a service from the left side from William Lanzillo (Jr./Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West) following a feed from Spencer Weeden (So./Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton). Freeland one-timed his shot from eight yards out into the corner of the goal.
The Knights defense limited the Cougars to only two shots, and Carleton goalkeeper Brandon Hilliard (Sr./Anoka, Minn./Totino Grace) notched his 13th career shutout.
Carleton will hold its home opener on Saturday, Sept. 2 as the Knights host Nebraska Wesleyan University at 5 p.m.
