BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced its Winter/Spring 2016-17 Academic All-Conference honorees today, with Carleton College student-athletes earning distinction 40 times. To qualify for recognition, student-athletes must be a sophomore, junior, or senior, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.

To earn the MIAC’s academic all-conference award, student-athletes must meet athletic requirements in addition to the academic standards.

Players on the men's and women's basketball, softball, and men's and women's tennis must compete in 50 percent of their team’s regular-season varsity contests. Position players in baseball must also meet the 50 percent playing time criteria, while pitchers are required to make at least five appearances or log 20 innings pitched.

Meanwhile, the “individual” sports each have sport-specific criteria. The swimming and diving qualifications require a student-athlete to finish in the top 16 of an individual event or compete in a relay race at the MIAC championships to be eligible. Track and field qualifications require student-athletes to score in an individual event (top 8 result) or compete on a relay team at the MIAC Championships.

MIAC Academic All-Conference honors are announced twice annually, after the completion of the fall and spring academic semesters. To visit the MIAC Academic All-Conference archives, click here.
