Knights earn 59 Academic All-Conference awards

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. –The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced its Winter/Spring 2018 Academic All-Conference honorees, with Carleton College student-athletes earning distinction 59 times. That figure is a 48 percent increase over the previous year.

With 94 total Academic All-Conference awards during the 2017-18 academic year, Carleton student-athletes posted their second-highest overall figure since the program adopted new academic and athletic standards prior to the 2005-06 season.

To qualify for recognition, student-athletes must be a sophomore, junior, or senior, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale. To earn the MIAC’s academic all-conference award, student-athletes must meet athletic requirements in addition to the academic standard

Athletically, student-athletes in baseball, men's and women's basketball, softball, and men's and women's tennis must compete in 50 percent of their team's regular-season varsity contests. In addition, baseball pitchers who made five appearances or completed 20 innings pitched were also eligible.

Golfers must compete in the MIAC Championships or complete a minimum of 12 competitive rounds in order to be eligible for the honor. The swimming and diving qualifications require a student-athlete to finish in the top 16 of an individual event or compete in a relay race at the MIAC championships to be eligible. Track and field qualifications require student-athletes to score in an individual event or compete on a relay team at the MIAC Championships.

A total of 20 honors went to Knight seniors (pictured), 19 to juniors, and 20 to sophomores. (Full list can be found below.)
