NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Carleton College men’s swimming and diving team won 11 of the 14 swimming events to register a 154-126 dual meet victory over Saint John’s University. Jack Dalluge (So./Waverly, Minn./Watertown-Mayer) was tabbed for the team’s “Can of Corn” Award after winning a pair of individual events and anchoring the Knights’ victorious 200-yard freestyle relay.

“We knew this meet was going to require some big efforts from every team member in order for both squads to have a chance at winning,” said Carleton head coach Andy Clark. “The Johnnies and Bennies are two strong teams who race well, and it was a back-and-forth battle all the way through the meet.

“For meets like this, it isn't enough to just win the event, you need to get the back-end points, and both Carleton squads did a great job of closing out their races to get those points. The kind of energy we had today was fantastic, especially coming off our hardest week of training.”

Dalluge’s opening swim of the day had him first to the wall in the 200-yard freestyle at 1:45.27. He also won the 100-yard freestyle in 49.24 and finished second to teammate Stevie Fitch (Fy./Redmond, Wash./Nikola Tesla Stem School) in the 500-yard freestyle at 5:05.38.

In addition to winning the 500 free with a time of 5:04.66, Fitch also posted a nearly six-second margin of victory in the 200-yard butterfly at 2:01.70.

Andrew Chang (Fy./Vancouver, Wash./Union) paced the Knights with three individual wins. He picked up top honors in the 100-yard backstroke at 55.16, 100-yard butterfly at 52.81, and 200-yard IM at 2:01.21.

Ari Conati (So./Minneapolis, Minn./Minnetonka) and Sam Darwish (So./Akron, Ohio./University School) added the other individual victories for the Knights, winning the 200-yard backstroke and 1650-yard freestyle with times of 2:02.88 and 18:16.62, respectively.

Chang and Fitch paired with Ryan Wetzel (So./Salem, Ore./West Salem) and Nick Reeves (So./Kirkland, Wash./Lake Washington) to capture first place in the meet-opening 200-yard medley relay. The meet concluded with Reeves, Conati, Fitch, and Dalluge combining on a victorious time of 1:29.14 in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

The Knights will hold their final full swimming and diving home meet of 2018 on Saturday, Jan. 27 when Carleton hosts St. Olaf for Senior Day beginning at 11 a.m.
