ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The Carleton College men’s swimming team posted a trio of runner-up results at the UST Relays on Saturday.

“Overall, this meet gave our teams an awesome opportunity to show their competitive spirit and support for one another,” said Carleton head coach Andy Clark. “The first meet of the season can set the tone for the rest of the year, and from the coaching side, we were really impressed with the positive energy and confidence that both squads showed throughout the meet. Despite this meet being very early in the season, we were pleased with the performances on both the diving side and swimming side.”

Andrew Chang (Fy./Vancouver, Wash./Union) played a part in each of the three second-place finishes: the 300-yard breaststroke relay, 300-yard butterfly relay, and 1100-yard animal relay. Nick Reeves (So./Kirkland, Wash./Lake Washington) swam on the first of those two relays. He and Chang were joined on the former (3:03.83) by Will Altaweel (Fy./Madison, Wis./Madison West)  and Ryan Wetzel (So./Salem, Ore./West Salem), while Jake Winter (Fy./Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) and Stevie Fitch (Fy./Redmond, Wash./Nikola Tesla Stem School) swam in the 300 butterfly event (2:38.24). Fitch, Chang, and Winter combined on a time of 11:45.4 in the animal relay. Carleton added third-place finishes in the 800 freestyle and 400 medley relays.

The Knights will take part in the Cows, Colleges, and Contentment Classic on Saturday, Oct. 28. The diving portion of the meet will be held at Carleton, while the swimming races will be held at Northfield Middle School.
