Men's Swimming at University of Minnesota Invite

Knights advance 15 to finals on day two of Minnesota Invite

MINNEAPOLIS – The Carleton College men’s swimming and diving team had a total of 15 individual swims during the event finals on day two of competition at the Minnesota Invite.

The three-day competition features four NCAA Division I programs—No. 21-ranked University of Minnesota, University of Utah (which is receiving votes in the D-I national poll), San Jose State, and South Dakota State—along with Carleton, St. Olaf College, and select club swimmers from around the area.

Ryan Wetzel (Jr./Salem, Ore./West Salem) turned in the top result for the Knights on this evening when he placed fifth in the “B” final and 13th overall in the 400-yard IM. He touched the wall at 4:30.79. Allen Yuan (Fy./Cary, N.C./Raleigh Charter); Eric Meyer (Jr./Potomac, Md./Wootton);  Jamie Wilmore (Fy./Salt Lake City, Utah/Rowland Hall); Will Altaweel (So./Madison, Wis./Madison West); Sam Darwish (Jr./Akron, Ohio./University School); Christian Heuchert (Jr./Little Elm, Texas/Lone Star); and Spencer Lekki (So./Moraga, Calif./Campolindo) all raced in the “C” final. Andrew Chang (So./Vancouver, Wash./Union) posted the 13th-fastest time during the morning prelims but elected not to swim in the “B” final.

Eli Offman (Fy./Toronto, Ont./Canada Greenwood College) raced in the “C final of the 100-yard butterfly. He posted a time of 54.02.

Jack Dalluge (Jr./Waverly, Minn./Watertown-Mayer) clocked a time of 1:47.85 after he qualified for the “C” final of the 200-yard freestyle.

Jack Heinzel (So./Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central), Wetzel, and Altaweel qualified for the “C” final of the 100-yard breaststroke. The trio posted times of 1:02.57, 1:04.31, and 1:08.55, respectively.

In the 100-yard backstroke, Offman and Alex Battiste (Sr./Northfield, Minn./Northfield) competed in the “C” final where they reached the wall at 58.40 and 1:00.84, respectively.

The Knights finished eighth in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:41.49 that was posted by Chang, Wetzel, Stevie Fitch (So./Redmond, Wash./Nikola Tesla Stem School), and Heinzel.

On Saturday, the final day of competition at this meet, the schedule includes the 1650 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, and 400 free relay.
