Two fifths equal sixth after day one of MIAC Championships

MINNEAPOLIS -- After the opening day of the 2019 MIAC Championships, the Carleton College men’s swimming and diving team sits sixth in the eight-team race with a score of 56.

In the 800-yard freestyle relay, the Knights placed fifth. The team of Jack Heinzel (So./Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central), Stevie Fitch (So./Redmond, Wash./Nikola Tesla Stem School), Alex Battiste (Sr./Northfield, Minn./Northfield), and Jack Dalluge (Jr./Waverly, Minn./Watertown-Mayer) swam a time of 7:03.34, collecting 28 points.

In the 200-yard medley relay, the Knights placed fifth again with Eli Offman (Fy./Toronto, Ont./Canada Greenwood College), Ryan Wetzel (Jr./Salem, Ore./West Salem), Andrew Chang (So./Vancouver, Wash./Union), and Nick Reeves (Jr./Kirkland, Wash./Lake Washington) swimming a 1:36.79.

Gustavus sits atop the standings with 130 points after the first day. St Thomas is next at 99, followed by St. Olaf (86), St. John’s (69), Macalester (63) and Carleton (56).

The MIAC Championships continue on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and will once again feature the preliminary rounds starting at 10:30 a.m. with the finals scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 5:30 p.m. on Sunday.
