BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – It has taken first-year Leo Vithoontien (Bangkok, Thailand/Bangkok Patana School) little time to make an impression on the collegiate tennis scene. The rookie is undefeated in singles play in 2018, including a decisive win over a nationally-ranked opponent that helped Vithoontien earn recognition as the MIAC Men’s Tennis Athlete-of-the-Week.

After notching two more impressive victories during the Knights’ weekend trip to Iowa, Vithoontien now owns a perfect 5-0 singles record in dual matches. He moved from No. 2 singles to the top spot in the lineup and did not miss a beat, knocking off Sriram Sugumaran of Grinnell College by a 6-4, 6-0 tally on Saturday.

Vithoontien followed that up with an impressive 6-2, 6-2 win on Sunday versus the No. 19-ranked singles player in the country, All-American Brady Anderson of Coe College. The Carleton rookie also split a pair of doubles matches over the weekend.

The Knights have another busy weekend on the horizon with two non-conference matches scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 17 followed by Sunday return to MIAC play with a matchup against Concordia College.
