FARGO, N.D. – After falling behind during doubles, the Carleton College men’s tennis team finally got things rolling in singles and secured a 7-2 victory at Concordia College-Moorhead. Lewis White (Jr./Minneapolis, Minn./Breck) was the lone Knight to notch victories in singles and doubles.

After doubles, the Cobbers (0-2, 0-2 MIAC) held a 2-1 lead over the No. 37-ranked Knights (3-1, 2-0 MIAC), picking up victories at first and second doubles by scores of 8-6 and 8-5, respectively. White and Christof Zweifel (So./Northfield, Minn./Northfieldt) accounted for Carleton’s point with an 8-1 result at the third slot.

“Concordia took us to school at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles,” said Carleton head coach Stephan Zweifel. “They made us look like six-year-olds trying to name the New England state capitals.”

Sahil Chhugani (Jr./Rochester, Minn./Century) set the tone for the comeback when he pulled out a 17-15 first-set tiebreaker at second singles. He went on to win the match 7-6 (17-15), 6-1 to spark the singles sweep.

White, Xander Roti (Fy./Locust Valley, N.Y./Friends Academy), Johnny Reichman (Sr./Shavano Park, Texas/Clark), and Jonas Lindholm-Uzzi (Jr./Germantown, N.Y./Red Hook) each notched straight-set victories as well. Lindholm-Uzzi clinched the team result with his 6-3, 6-3 decision at fifth singles.

William Walsh (Fy./San Antonio, Texas/Alamo Heights) completed the singles sweep, but it was not easy as he had to rally from a set down to claim the 4-6, 6-2, 10-5 triumph.

“I give our guys a lot of credit for believing in themselves and turning the match around when it came time for singles,” said Zweifel.

The Knights will road trip to Wisconsin for a pair trio of matches next weekend, beginning with contests against Carthage College and Carroll University on Saturday, Feb. 9.
