MINNEAPOLIS, -- Fresh off earning its first national ranking of the season, the Carleton College men’s tennis team stayed unbeaten in MIAC play with a 9-0 victory over Hamline University. All six players in the Knights lineup won in both singles and doubles.

Aaron Goodman (Jr./Minneapolis, Minn./St. Louis Park) and Leo Vithoontien (Fy./Bangkok, Thailand/Bangkok Patana School) paired up for the first time this season and cruised to a 8-1 triumph at first doubles.

The tandem of Kevin Hurley (Sr./Novi, Mich/Univ. of Detroit Jesuit) and Xander Zuczek (Fy./Westerly, R.I./St. Bernard) won its 13th straight match to start the season as they combined on an 8-1 victory at the second slot.

Sahil Chhugani (So./Rochester, Minn./Century) improved to 7-0 in doubles play this season after teaming with Jonas Lindholm-Uzzi (So./Germantown, N.Y./Red Hook) on an 8-5 victory at the third spot.

Coming into the day, only two MIAC players had won more than five singles matches this season and were still undefeated: Hamline’s Jake Trondson (9-0) and Vithoontien, the No. 5-ranked singles player in the region. The Carleton rookie improved to 15-0 this year after winning their head-to-head matchup, 6-3 and 6-4.

“Leo and his opponent covered more ground during their points than a pair of child day care workers after nap time,” noted Carleton head coach Stephan Zweifel.

Goodman won his ninth straight singles match against D-III opponents as he won 6-3, 6-2 at the second spot in the lineup.

Chhugani pushed his season singles record to 12-3 with a decisive 6-1, 6-0 triumph at third singles. Zuczek played singles for the first time in more than three weeks but showed no signs of rust in posting a 6-0, 6-2 victory. Hurley posted his eighth singles straight win as he prevailed 6-1 and 6-0, and Lindholm-Uzzi completed the sweep as he improved to 5-0 in singles this season by a 6-1 and 6-2 margin.

Carleton was slated to faced Macalester in an match on Saturday evening, but that contest was postponed by weather and will be made up at a later date. The next currently schedule match for the Knights will be next Saturday, April 21 at No. 8 Gustavus Adolphus College.
