COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – With an 8-1 victory over Saint John’s University, the No. 38-ranked Carleton College men’s tennis team earned the second seed in the upcoming MIAC Playoffs. It was also the Knights’ 20th triumph of the season, marking the seventh time they have reached that plateau over the last 13 seasons.

“I’m very proud of our results this year,” said Carleton head coach Stephan Zweifel. “Once again we have drafted a roster of player that could compete with an entire NFL team such as the Cleveland Browns.”

Over the last 16 years, the Knights have posted an impressive 128-16 record in regular-season MIAC matches.

The Knights (20-4 overall, 8-1 MIAC) won two of the three doubles matches. The regionally-ranked duo of Leo Vithoontien (Fy./Bangkok, Thailand/Bangkok Patana School) and Jordon O'Kelly (Jr./Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) posted an 8-4 victory as did the tandem of Aaron Goodman (Jr./Minneapolis, Minn./St. Louis Park) and Jonas Lindholm-Uzzi (So./Germantown, N.Y./Red Hook)

Carleton then swept the singles matches, with each victory coming in straight sets.

O’Kelly had the tightest match, prevailing in an opening set tiebreaker to win 7-6 (8-6) and 6-2. Vithoontien, Goodman, Sahil Chhugani (So./Rochester, Minn./Century), Kevin Hurley (Sr./Novi, Mich/Univ. of Detroit Jesuit), and Andrew Qi (Jr./Auckland, New Zealand/Saint Kentigern) had the other victories.

UP NEXT FOR THE KNIGHTS:
