BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Lucas Mueller (Fy./St. Paul, Minn./Nova Classical Academy) turned in solid races during both the mile and 3000-meter run at the SDSU Indoor Classic. On Tuesday, he earned the MIAC Men’s Indoor Track Athlete-of-the-Week honor, the first weekly award of his career.

The SDSU Indoor Classic was a 25-team meet that included competitors from five NCAA D-I programs and eight D-II squads.

At the longer distance, Mueller placed fourth out of 72 competitors with a time of 8:23.07. That is the top time in the MIAC since 2016, smashed his previous PR by more than 15 seconds, is the top time in D-III this season by a first-year, and ranks No. 20 in the country overall. It is also the second-fastest time in Carleton history, bested only by multiple national champion Dale Kramer 40 years ago.

Mueller completed the weekend by placing 18th out of 127 racers in the mile, but was the second-fastest D-III runner in the field with his time of 4:19.56.

Carleton will have a small contingent race at the U of M Snowshoe Open on Friday, Feb. 16. The next day, the rest of the squad will compete at the Tostrud Classic hosted by St. Olaf.
