ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Carleton sophomore runner Noah Laack-Veeder (Madison, Wis./LaFollette) made quite an impression with his performance Saturday at the Minnesota State Open. Competing against a largely NCAA Division II field, Laack-Veeder was terrific in winning the 800-meter run by the slimmest of margins, and anchoring a Knights' relay team in a thrilling come-from-behind victory. For two victorious performances, Laack-Veeder was named the MIAC Men's Indoor Track Athlete-of-the-Week.

Laack-Veeder trailed in his 800-meter run victory, but surged from behind to cross the finish line first by just 0.01 seconds. His winning time of 1:56.54 ranks No. 1 in the MIAC this season, and No. 16 nationally - which is the highest current ranking for any MIAC men's track athlete. He also helped the 4x400-meter relay team secure victory with a time of 3:28.98 in another race where Carleton had to make up ground to gain the win. Laack-Veeder and the Knights have the MIAC's second-best time in that relay event.

This was Laack-Veeder’s second Athlete-of-the-Week award, having earned the honor during the 2012 outdoor season.

Carleton and Laack-Veeder have a busy February ahead with five events on the schedule prior to the MIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships, which will be held across town at St. Olaf Feb. 28-March 2. This weekend, they'll head to Iowa to compete in the Grinnell Invite before returning home the following weekend to host the Meet of the Hearts on Feb. 9 at the Carleton Recreation Center at 11 a.m.
