Knights take down 4x800 team record at MIAC Championships

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Carleton College men’s track and field team saw the program record in the 4x800-meter relay fall on day one of the MIAC Championships. Joey Cook-Gallardo (Fy./Moscow, Idaho/Moscow), Ben Withbroe (Sr./Takoma Park, Md./Albert Einstein), Camden Sikes (Jr./Berkeley, Calif./Berkeley), and Donson Cook-Gallardo (Jr./Moscow, Idaho/Moscow) took more than 10 seconds off the previous team standard. The quartet posted a time of 7:34.92 to place second and earn All-MIAC Honorable Mention.

Peter Dehkes (Sr./Clinton, N.J./North Hunterdon) and Jack Buckner (Jr./Seattle, Wash./Northwest) both overcame leg injuries to pick up All-MIAC Honorable Mention in the high jump. Both Knights cleared a season-best 1.89 meters.

Dwight Alexander (Jr./San Francisco, Calif./Lawrenceville) added to Carleton’s point total by placing seventh overall in the long jump. He measured a season-best 6.73 meters in his final attempt of the competition.

Joey Cook-Gallardo and Bryan Richter (Fy./Des Moines, Iowa/Abraham Lincoln) advanced to the finals of the 400-meter dash. The former posted a time of 49.40, while the latter established a new personal best by crossing the line at 49.55.

Donson Cook-Gallardo and Ben Withbroe (Sr./Takoma Park, Md./Albert Einstein) moved on to the finals after finishing 1-2 in their prelim heat of the 800-meter run as they recorded times of 1:55.65 and 1:55.90.

Walter Edstrom (Sr./Plano, Texas/Plano West) grabbed a spot in the finals of the 1500-meter run with his prelim time of 4:10.65, and Justin Washington (Fy./Chicago, Ill./Northside College Prep) earned the last spot in the finals of the 110-meter hurdles with his new PR time of 15.92.

A trio of Knights will run in the finals of the 400-meter hurdles as Austin Baxter (Fy./Newport Beach, Calif./Corona Del Mar), Washington, and Liam Sullivan (Fy./Chicago, Ill./St. Ignatius) clocked times of 55.99, 57.33, and 57.64, respectively, to advance.

Carleton’s entry in the 4x100-meter relay also nabbed a spot in Saturday’s finals with a time of 42.80.

Saturday’s action begins at 1:30 p.m. with some of the field events, while racing on the track at Hamline University starts at 3:00 p.m.
