NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Carleton College men’s track and field team sent athletes east and west on Saturday to UW-La Crosse Phil Esten Challenge and the Cobber Snow-nami Open.

Bryan Richter (So./Des Moines, Iowa/Lincoln) and Zach Kulstad (Fy./Savage Minn./Prior Lake) headed west to Concordia-Moorhead and both won individual events. Richter took first place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.23 seconds. He also finished in third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.79. Kulstad won the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.76 seconds. He also competed in the 200 meter-dash, finishing in eighth place.

Ben Schwartz (So./Mankato, Minn./Mankato East) helped the Knights go 1-2 in the 100-meter dash with a second-place finish with a time of 11.30 seconds. Later in the meet, he notched a fifth-place finish in the 200-meter dash in 22.84 seconds. Hicks took seventh in the 400-meter dash and was 10th in the 200-meter race.

The quartet also combined on a convincing victory in the 4x400-meter relay, posting a winning time of 3:21.54

While that contingent ventured nearly to North Dakota, the Knights sent four other racers just across the border into Wisconsin.

Donson Cook-Gallardo (Sr./Moscow, Idaho) continued his stellar career with a second-place finish in the 1500-meter run. He repeated his runner-up status from last year’s event with a time of 3:49.29, good for a new season best. He was edged out this time by former MIAC rival Joe Coffey—a 2017 St. Olaf graduate—by a mere 0.17 seconds in the race of 70 runners.

Also competing in La Crosse were a trio of long-distance runners: Tris Dodge (Jr./Oakland, Calif./College Prep), Lucas Mueller (Fy./St. Paul, Minn./Nova Classical Academy) and Matthew Wilkinson (Fy./Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka). The trio finished fourth, fifth, and seventh with times of 30:34.17, 30:46.92, and 31:15.52 respectively.

UP NEXT FOR THE KNIGHTS:
The Knights will next compete at the Bolstorff Twilight Meet at Macalester College on Thursday, April 26. Cook-Gallardo will head to the Drake Relays for the 800-meter run on Saturday, April 28.
