Final Results — Drake Relays 800-meter run   |   SMU Open

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Carleton College men’s track and field team sent senior Donson Cook-Gallardo (Moscow, Idaho/Moscow) to compete at the world-famous Drake Relays. He finished in sixth place in the seeded 800-meter run. The rest of the roster headed to the Saint Mary’s Open.

At the Drake Relays, Donson Cook-Gallardo competed against 10 Division I racers and four other participants from various levels in a loaded field for the seeded 800-meter run. His time of 1:50.83 trailed only five of the other runners—four of them D-I athletes—in the event and ranks second in NCAA Division III this season.

In Winona, the Knights had four individual first-place finishers: Joey Cook-Gallardo (So./Moscow, Idaho/Moscow), Ben Schnieders (Fy./Clarendon Hills, Ill./Hinsdale Central), Matt Wilkinson (Fy./Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka), and Zach Kulstad (Fy./Savage Minn./Prior Lake) all won one event today.

With his older brother running the 800-meter run at the Drake Relays, Joey Cook Gallardo raced the same distance at Saint Mary’s with a personal-best time of 1:54.94. Schnieders paced Carleton’s 1-2-3 finish in the 10,000 meter run with a time of 34:11.08. Wilkinson was the top finisher in the steeplechase with a time of 9:29.49. Kulstad won the 400-meter dash with a personal-best time of 49.06 and posted a second-place result in the 200-meter dash with a personal-record of 22.60.

Right behind Kulstad in the 400-meter race was Bryan Richter (So./Des Moines, Iowa/Lincoln) as he finished in second place with a new PR of 49.37. Camden Sikes (Sr./Berkeley, Calif./Berkeley) was runner-up to Joey Cook-Gallardo in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:57.91.

Carleton earned two more second-place finishes as the 4x400 meter relay team of Nick Brusilow (Fy./Grosse Pointe, Mich./Liggett), Bolu Johnson (Sr./Chicago, Ill./University of Chicago Laboratory Schools), Sikes, and Joey Cook-Gallardo covered the distance in 3:23.74. Joey Cook-Gallarado made up nearly 40 meters on the the achor leg but could not quite catch the race leader.

The other runner-up result was from Christian Zaytoun (Jr./Raleigh, N.C./Woodberry Forest) in the Javelin. The Knights went 2-3-4 in that event with Zaytoun, Jack Buckner (Sr./Seattle, Wash./Northwest), and Mack Journell (So./Stevens Point, Wis./Stevens Point) throwing 50.92, 50.43, and 49.26 meters respectively.

In the jumping events, Daamir Robinson-Johnson (So./Philadelphia, Pa./Northeast) finished in fourth in the triple jump (13.15 meters), while Dwight Alexander (Sr./San Francisco, Calif./Lawrenceville) placed fifth in the long jump after measuring 6.75 meters, second-best in the MIAC this season.

The Knights host the MIAC Decathlon on Thursday and Friday, May 3-4. Other team members may compete at the Meet of the Unsaintly in St. Paul on Friday and Saturday, May 4-5.
