LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Carleton College men’s track and field team sent six student-athletes to the UW-La Crosse Last Chance Qualifier on Thursday evening. Unfortunately, no member of this contingent was able to greatly increase his chances for a spot at the upcoming NCAA Championships.

Matthew Wilkinson (Fy./Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka) placed third in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:24.21. That was nearly 4.5 seconds slower than his season-best time that now ranks 40th in the country.

In the 4x400-meter relay, Carleton’s quartet of Bryan Richter (So./Des Moines, Iowa/Lincoln), Zach Kulstad (Fy./Savage Minn./Prior Lake), Maurice Hicks (Sr./Upper Marlboro, Md./Maret), and Joey Cook-Gallardo (So./Moscow, Idaho/Moscow) finished fifth with a season-best time of 3:16.79. That ranks 35th on the national performance list.

Lucas Mueller (Fy./St. Paul, Minn./Nova Classical Academy) finished second in the 5000-meter run at 15:02.28. That was 12 seconds slower than his winning time at the MIAC Outdoor Championships last weekend.

Donson Cook-Gallardo (Sr./Moscow, Idaho/Moscow) did not compete on Thursday as he was already safely in the national top-10 for both the 800- and 1500-meter runs.

Tris Dodge (Jr./Oakland, Calif./College Prep) sits 24th on the national list for the 10,000-meter run.

The NCAA Championships field is limited to 20 male student-athletes in each individual event and the top 16 relays.

The official list of NCAA Championships participants will be released by 9 a.m. EDT via the NCAA website (
