MANKATO, Minn. – The Knights went 1-2-3-4 in the 5000-meter run the Mark Schuck Open at Minnesota State University-Mankato, highlighting a number of solid early-season performances by the Carleton College men’s track and field team. The Knights finished eighth at the 12-team meet which included six NCAA D-II programs.

Lucas Mueller (So./St. Paul, Minn./Nova Classical Academy) ran away from the pack in the 5K, finishing in a time of 14:45.50. Coming in second was Tris Dodge (Sr./Oakland, Calif./College Prep), who clocked a time of 14:57.77.

Matt Wilkinson (So./Minnetonka, Minn.) and Cameron Meikle (Jr./Hamilton, Mont.) crossed the finish line in third (15:03.60) and fourth (15:09.87), respectively.

In the 1,000-meter run, sophomore Clay Tydings (Charlotte, N.C./Woodberry Forest) took third place in 2:42.50, while Evan David (So./Grand Rapids, Minn.) earned a fourth-place result with a time of 2:45.11.

Joey Cook-Gallardo (Jr./Moscow, Idaho) notched an impressive early-season time of 1:58.12 in the 800-meter run, good for third place. Fellow Knight Ben Perry (Fy./Minneapolis, Minn./Minneapolis Washburn) came in ninth place at 2:05.40.

On the sprint side, Ben Schwartz (Jr./Mankato, Minn./Mankato East) and Bryan Richter (Jr./Des Moines, Iowa/Lincoln) finished in ninth and 10th in the 200-meter dash, clocking times of 23.17 and 23.24 seconds, respectively.

Carleton’s entry in the 4x400 relay placed sixth at 3:36.14. That quartet of first-years included Dan Scheider (Claremont, Calif./Claremont), Ben Perry (Minneapolis, Minn./Washburn), Bridger Rives (Skiatook, Okla./Bishop Kelley), and Oscar Christoph (Tacoma, Wash./ Woodrow Wilson)

In the field, Peter Keel (Jr./Roseville, Minn.) notched two top-10 performances. He took seventh place in the triple jump (13.13 meters) and 10th in the long jump (6.22 meters). Zach Kulstad (So./Savage Minn./Prior Lake) tied for ninth in the high jump after clearing 1.79 meters

The Knights will return to MSU-Mankato on Saturday, Feb. 2 for the Ted Nelson Classic starting at 11:00 a.m.
