WAVERLY, Iowa – Carleton College senior Tris Dodge (Oakland, Calif./College Prep) headed south to compete at the NCAA Qualifier last chance meet hosted by Wartburg College. He entered the day with the hopes of moving up the national leaderboard and earning a spot at next week’s national championships.

Dodge’s previous season and career-best time of 8:35.97 was set back in early February. He bettered that performance by 6.5 seconds, finishing third in Saturday’s race with a time of 8:29.42. He was one of four runners to break the previous Hoover Fieldhouse record and one of seven runners to smash the previous meet record.

While Dodge was successful  in moving up in the national rankings, it is doubtful he climbed far enough to be in consideration for a bid to the NCAA Indoor Championships. Teammates Lucas Mueller (So./St. Paul, Minn./Nova Classical Academy) and Matt Wilkinson (So./Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka) are both ranked inside the top 15, putting them in good position for invitations to Nationals.

The official entry list for the NCAA Championships will be released by 7 p.m. ET/6 p.m. CT on Sunday, March 3 via NCAA.org.
