Seyferth’s Toss Highlights First Home Meet in Two Years

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Carleton College men’s track and field team hosted Minnesota State-Mankato (Divison II), MSU-Moorhead (D-II), Gustavus Adolphus College, and St. Thomas University for the Carleton Alumni Open, the first meet held at Laird Stadium in two years. While there were several strong performances on the newly re-surfaced track, it was Colby Seyferth’s (Fy./Banks, Ore./Banks) victory in the javelin that grabbed the top highlight of the day.

His first toss went 155 feet, 8 inches (47.33 meters) and proved to be tops in the competition. Robert Wakeley (Sr./Kenmore, Wash./Northwest) was second in the event at 155 feet, 1 inch, nearly 10 feet better than the next-closest finisher. Seyferth was also the Knights’ top performer in the short sprints, placing sixth in the 100-meter dash at 11.26 and eighth in the 200-meter dash at 22.96.

The Laird Stadium running surface was replaced last summer following a flood during the fall of 2010.

Arnaud Kpachavi (Fy./San Gregorio, Calif./Woodside Priory School) placed second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 51. 25. Noah Laack-Veeder’s (Fy./Madison, Wis./ LaFollette) also posted a second-pace result in the 800-meter distance. His impressive second lap helped him finish second among 23 racers, reaching the line at 1:53.58.

Marcus Huderle (So./Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) turned in a third-place showing in the 1,500-meter run. He finished in 3:59.96, tops among NCAA Division III competitors. Adrian Carpenter (So./Menlo Park, Calif./Menlo Atherton) was fourth in the 400-meter hurdles.

In the other field events, Dylan Cheever (Jr./Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest) and Lobo James (So./Redmond, Wash./Telluride) each cleared 1.86 meters to place fifth and sixth respectively. Evan McNeil (Fy./Burnsville, Minn./Academy of Holy Angels) took fifth in the pole vault, clearing 13 feet, 8.25 inches (4.17 meters).

The Knights are scheduled to compete at the Lee Krough Invitational on April 14 at Gustavus.
