Men's Track and Field at MIAC Indoor Championships

Knights win three events, sit third at MIAC Championships

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Matthew Wilkinson (Fy./Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka), Donson Cook-Gallardo (Sr./Moscow, Idaho/Moscow), and the Knights distance medley relay each claimed conference crowns on Friday at the MIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships. Behind those results, Carleton College slots third in the team competition.

St. Thomas owns the top spot in the standings at 90 points with Bethel (62) holding a slim lead over Carleton (58) for second place. Hamline (42) and Saint John’s (40) round out the top five.

Scoring for Carleton began with Jack Buckner’s (Sr./Seattle, Wash./Northwest) third-place result in the heptathlon. He totaled 4,460 points, the second-highest figure of his career, and earned All-MIAC status for the second time in the event. Liam Sullivan (So./Chicago, Ill./St. Ignatius) added to Carleton’s point total with an eighth-place finish after totaling 4,160 points.

Wilkinson edged teammate Lucas Mueller (Fy./St. Paul, Minn./Nova Classical Academy) to win the 5000-meter run as the duo clocked personal-best times of 14:57.61 and 14:58.37 and earned All-MIAC status. Tris Dodge (Jr./Oakland, Calif./College Prep) and Cameron Meikle (So./Hamilton, Mont./Hamilton) captured all-conference honorable mention by placing fourth and fifth, respectively, at 15:09.36 and 15:11.75.

In the 60-meter dash, Bryan Richter (So./Des Moines, Iowa/Lincoln) missed advancing to the finals by 0.04 seconds as he crossed the line at 7.113.

Cook-Gallardo notched the Knights’ second event victory of the day when he won the mile run with a time of 4:17.86.

The Knights’ entry in the distance medley came out on top as Camden Sikes (Sr./Berkeley, Calif./Berkeley), Austin Baxter (So./Newport Beach, Calif./Corona Del Mar), Nick Brusilow (Fy./Grosse Pointe, Mich./Liggett), and Lucas Mueller (Fy./St. Paul, Minn./Nova Classical Academy) combined on a time of 10:27.33.

Peter Keel (So./Roseville, Minn./Roseville) earned All-MIAC Honorable Mention as he placed fifth in the triple jump and smashed his previous personal best with a leap of 13.53 meters.
