GENEVA, Ohio – On the final day of competition at the 2019 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, sophomores Matt Wilkinson (Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka) and Lucas Mueller (St. Paul, Minn./Nova Classical Academy) fought through hot and humid conditions to turn in All-America results. Those performances helped the Carleton College men’s track and field team tie for 11th out of the 80 programs to score points at this year’s meet.

The Knights went 4-for-4 in securing All-America recognition at the 2019 national meet. Mueller was the runner-up in the 10,000-meter run on Thursday evening. Teammate Tris Dodge (Sr./Oakland, Calif./College Prep) finished eighth in that same event.

Wilkinson, one of only two underclassmen in the 20-runner field that qualified for the national championships in this event, had the second-fastest time during Thursday’s steeplechase prelims.

Using his usual monster finishing kick, he climbed from eighth to fourth over the last 200 meters of Saturday’s race and crossed the line in 9:08.95. That was only two seconds off his PR established at the Drake Relays a month ago. This was Wilkinson’s third All-America award of his sophomore year, including his performances in cross country and indoor track and field.

As he did in Thursday’s 10K race, Mueller, the top non-senior in the field, ran with the lead pack for much of the 5000-meter run. He finished this race in 14:50.04, nine seconds behind winner Dhruvil Patel of North Central College but still captured his second All-America award of this meet and his fourth of the 2018-19 academic year.

This marks only the sixth and seventh times in school history that a runner earned All-America status at the national cross country, indoor track & field, and outdoor track & field championships in the same academic year. (SEE CHART BELOW)
