CLERMONT, Fla. — The Carleton College softball team wrapped up its spring break trip on Wednesday, and the Knights were swept by University of Northwestern Ohio by scores of 11-2 (5 inn.) and 9-1 (6 inn.). Kaitlin Bagley (Sr./Duluth, Minn./Denfeld) had the best statistical performance for Carleton as she contributed her second straight three-hit day.
The Knights grabbed the early lead in the opener when Katrina Harper (Sr./Columbia Heights, Minn./Columbia Heights) singled, stole second, advanced on a groundout, and scored on a fielding error. The advantage was short lived, however, as the Racers exploited a couple of fielding miscues by Carleton to string together a five-run second inning, giving Northwestern Ohio the lead for good.
After watching her toss 2.0 perfect frames of relief in game one, the Racers solved Jenny Forster (Sr./Ledyard, Conn./Ledyard) for three runs in the first inning of game two, and once again Northwestern Ohio would not relinquish the lead.
The Knights are slated to open the MIAC portion of the season on Saturday, March 29 when they are scheduled to host Hamline University for a pair of games beginning at 1 p.m.. However, due to conditions at Knights Field, the timing and location of those contests could change. Fans are reminded to check Knights Online for the latest schedule information for all Carleton sports throughout the spring.
