NORTHFIELD, Minn. – As expected, there were a couple of close games when cross-town rivals Carleton College and St. Olaf College met on the diamond Saturday afternoon. Runs were at a premium, however, as the two sides combined for only six total runs during the two games, with the Knights rallying to take the opener 3-2 before the Oles snuck out a 1-0 triumph in the day’s second contest.

Sam Kile (So./Elk Grove, Calif./Consumnes Oaks) came out of the bullpen in both games and pitched a combined 6.2 scoreless frames with nine strikeouts. She added a 2-for-4 performance with the bat in game one, including the go-ahead RBI single.

Carleton (13-15, 6-10 MIAC) trailed 2-0 until mounting a two-out, three-run rally in the fifth inning. A double by Ari Zuaro (Jr./Scotch Plain, N.J./Scotch Plains-Fanwood), and error, and a hit batter loaded the bases for Natalie Maurice (Fy./Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie). The Knights catcher doubled home two runs, and Kile followed with a single to center to plate Katie Eppard (Jr./Pleasanton, Calif./Amador Valley) with what became the winning run.

Kile tossed 3.0 shutout innings for her ninth win of the season and first as a reliever.

St. Olaf (21-11, 10-6 MIAC) shortstop Kristina Lodahl led off the bottom of the first with a triple down the right-field line. She subsequently scored on a wild pitch for the lone run of the contest.

Anna Lauko (So./Whitefish Bay, Wis./Whitefish Bay) went 2-for-3, accounting for half of the Knights base hits.

UP NEXT FOR THE KNIGHTS: Carleton hosts Bethel University for a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Sunday, April 23. It will be Senior Day at Ele Hansen Field.
