CLERMONT, Fla. -- Anna Lauko (So./Whitefish Bay, Wis./Whitefish Bay) and Corrie Lucchesi (Jr./Chicago, Ill./Lane Tech) both had four hits on the day as the Carleton College softball team split a pair of games, defeating Elmhurst College by a 9-6 margin before dropping a 10-1 result to University of Northwestern Ohio.
In the day’s first game, the Knights and Bluejays were locked in a tight tussle until Carleton put together a big fifth inning. The Knights sent a dozen batters to the plate and left the frame in possession of a 9-3 lead. Elmhurst got the tying run to the plate in the top of the seventh, but Sam Kile (So./Elk Grove, Calif./Consumnes Oaks) closed out her fourth complete game victory this season with a strikeout.
Lauko and Lucchesi finished with three hits apiece, while Katie Eppard (Jr./Pleasanton, Calif./Amador Valley) and Mia Orans (Sr./San Francisco, Calif./Piedmont) also had multi-hit contests for Carleton.
Game two was a different story as the Knights faced a Racer squad that was playing its 24th game of the season. Northwestern Ohio never trailed thanks to a three-run home run by Eleya Montroy in the opening stanza. Carleton was limited to two hits—singles by Lauko and Lucceshi—that led to the Knights’ lone run in the fourth inning.
After enjoying an off day, the Knights will be back on the diamond for games against Wesleyan
