CLERMONT, Fla. – The Carleton College softball averaged 8.0 runs per game entering the day, but the Knights managed just eight total hits and a lone run on Wednesday in dropping a 4-0 result to Wesleyan University and a 2-1 loss Plymouth State University.

Carleton had runners aboard in each of the first six innings of the loss to Wesleyan but four Knights were stranded in scoring position and another was thrown out on the basepaths. Anna Lauko (So./Whitefish Bay, Wis./Whitefish Bay) collected two of the Carleton’s four hits in the contest.

The day’s second game saw a pitcher’s duel between Sam Kile (So./Elk Grove, Calif./Consumnes Oaks) and the Panthers’ Allison Moylan. Kile went the distance, striking out six and allowed only one earned run on three hits, while Moylan yielded a run on four hits over 6.1 innings.

Carleton scored its run in the third inning as Lauko singled and came around to score following base hits by Corrie Lucchesi (Jr./Chicago, Ill./Lane Tech) and Katie Eppard (Jr./Pleasanton, Calif./Amador Valley).

Plymouth State’s runs came in the bottom of the same frame. The only hit of the inning, a single to right field by Abrie Davis, chased home both Panthers runs in the game. Kile surrendered only one more hit the rest of the way but still absorbed her first loss of the season.

The Knights got the tying and winning runs aboard in the seventh inning but reliever Hannah Seidner retired the final two batters for her second save.

Carleton’s final game action of spring break will come on Friday, March 24 with a 9 a.m. contest versus Grinnell College followed by an 11:30 a.m. meeting with Oberlin College.
