CLERMONT, Fla. – The Carleton College softball team won a nail biter and a slugfest as the Knights improved to 7-1 on the season. The day began with a 2-1 victory over Ripon College and concluded with a 16-12 triumph against Framingham State.

Sam Kile (Sr./Elk Grove, Calif./Consumnes Oaks) keyed the victory from both the batter’s box and the pitching circle. Her two-run home run snapped a scoreless tie in the sixth inning. She also went the distance, limiting the Red Hawks to only two hits and a walk while striking out eight in the complete-game effort.

Carleton managed only six hits in the game, but with one out in the sixth frame, Trina Eichel (Fy./Alameda, Calif./Alameda) was hit by a pitch and Kile followed with her second home run on the season.

After permitting only one Ripon runner past first base over the first six innings, Kile was finally solved for an unearned tally in the seventh, but she closed the game out for her fourth victory of the young season.

Carleton never trailed en route to the 16-12 victory over Framingham State. The Knights raced out to a 10-1 lead before the Rams (2-6) pushed across eight runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Carleton added five more runs in the sixth inning to insert some breathing room.

Natalie Maurice (Jr./Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) was 3-for-5 with two doubles and three RBI. Maris Daleo (So./Stillman Valley, Ill./Stillman Valley) went 2-for-3 and scored five times. Kile and Anna Lauko (Sr./Whitefish Bay, Wis./Whitefish Bay) added three RBI apiece.

Kile notched the win in relief, tossing 2.0 scoreless frames to improve to 5-1 on the season.

Carleton will play both Kalamazoo College and Middlebury College on Saturday, March 23.
