KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Carleton College softball team dropped Saturday’s first game to Kalamazoo College, 5-3, before responding with a 6-0 triumph over Middlebury College.

Carleton (8-2) fell behind 3-1 but rallied to tie the game in the fifth inning with two-out RBI hits from Anna Lauko (Sr./Whitefish Bay, Wis./Whitefish Bay) and Natalie Maurice (Jr./Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie).

Kalamazoo (2-3) responded with a pair of two-out runs in the sixth inning to move back in front, 5-3. The Knights got two baserunners aboard in the home half of the seventh inning but were unable to push across the tying runs.

Mo McConnell (Jr./Merion Sta, Pa./Lower Merion) went 2-for-2 with a walk. Maris Daleo (So./Stillman Valley, Ill./Stillman Valley) and Madison Collins (Fy./Elmhurst, Ill./York Community) had the other base hits for Carleton.

McConnell’s RBI grounder gave Carleton the 1-0 lead in the second inning, and the Knights tacked on four more runs in the third inning, including RBIs from Sam Kile (Sr./Elk Grove, Calif./Consumnes Oaks), Sarah Ogle (Sr./San Diego, Calif./Francis Parker School), Collins, and Shelby Johnson (Fy./Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld).

That was more than enough run support for Kile, who improved to 6-1 on the season and notched her first shutout of the season by scattering five singles and two walks while registering six strikeouts.

Sunday’s slate calls for Carleton to play two more games. The Knights face UW-River Falls (11:00 a.m. ET) and Lewis & Clark College (2:15 p.m. ET).
