ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Carleton College softball team was knocked out of the MIAC Playoffs after a heart-breaking 1-0 loss at St. Catherine University. This was the Knights’ first trip to the postseason since 2013.

“So proud of this Knights team,” said Carleton head coach Amy Erickson. “They played with so much heart and poise all season long.”

Sarah Ogle (Jr./San Diego, Calif./Francis Parker School) got the starting assignment for the Knights and turned into one of her best outings of the season, allowing only five hits with four strikeouts and a walk. She permitted only two earned runs over her last 18.2 innings (0.75 ERA).

Ogle worked her way out of a bases-loaded jam in the second inning, and the game remained scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning. That’s when Amber Montero connected for her eighth career home run.

That turned to be all the run support that Krista Flugstad would require, as the senior limited the Knights to three hits and two walks with five strikeouts.

Maris Daleo (Fy./Stillman Valley, Ill./Stillman Valley) and Molly Steinberg (Sr./Santa Monica, Calif./Harvard Westlake) each singled and drew a walk in the game, but Carleton was unable to get a runner past second base.

This marked the final game in the careers of Steinberg, Katie Eppard (Sr./Pleasanton, Calif./Amador Valley), Corrie Lucchesi (Sr./Chicago, Ill./Lane Tech), and Ari Zuaro (Sr./Scotch Plain, N.J./Scotch Plains-Fanwood).

St. Catherine advances to the double-elimination portion of the MIAC Playoffs and will next face No. 2 seed College of Saint Benedict.
