NORTHFIELD, Minn. — Faith Skinner (Jr./La Crosse, Wis./Central) paced the Knights with nine kills as the Carleton College volleyball team swept Crown College (25-14, 25-17, and 25-20) in the first match of the season for both squads.

“It was nice to get a win and work our offense with our freshman setters and some new players filling our hitting roles,” said Carleton head coach Heidi Jaynes.

After cruising to the opening set win, Carleton used a 10-2 burst to close out the second set. The Knights trailed 14-9 in the third set before putting together a 9-1 spurt to spark a match-ending 16-6 run.

Rookie Lauren Pak (Fy./Moraga, Calif./Campolindo) doled out a match-high 19 assists, and Sarah Grier (Fy./Dublin, Calif./Dublin) contributed a trio of assists off the bench.

In addition to Skinner’s nine assists, middle hitters Katherine Miles (Sr./Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South) and Lucy Stevens (Sr./Portland, Ore./Oregon Episcopal School) contributed seven and six kills, respectively.

Carleton (1-0) limited the Storm (0-1) to a .000 attack percentage and owned a 9-2 advantage in service aces. Anna Flitner (Sr./Presho, S.D./Lyman) registered four of those aces and added a team-high 11 digs.

Day two of the Carleton-St. Olaf Invitational will see the Knights face UW-River Falls and Valley City State University at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.
