NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Carleton College volleyball team overpowered non-conference foe Martin Luther College in three quick sets (25-16, 25-17, 25-17) on Friday night at West Gymnasium to protract its timely winning streak.

Dictating affairs from the get-go, the Knights (7-10) bounded out to an 8-2 advantage to put Martin Luther in an early hole. Carleton extended its lead slightly until the score reached a 16-9 tally in favor of the hosts, and Martin Luther (13-12) called a timeout. The break did little to slow the Knights, and they went on to win the first set convincingly by a score of 25-16. Carleton hit an impressive .438 as a team in the game.

In the following set, it was more of the same from the Carleton side. In no time the Knights achieved a commanding 15-9 edge to force a Martin Luther timeout. As was the case in the previous set, nothing could stop the momentum of Carleton. Despite some minor late resistance from Martin Luther, the Knights sprinted to a 25-17 second-frame victory to go up 2-0 in the match.

In the spirit of October, Carleton jumped out to a 15-9 lead to prompt a Martin Luther timeout, eerily similar to the previous frame. For the third set in a row, the home squad rolled to a dominant win, this one again by a tally of 25-17, to close out the match.

Lucy Stevens (Sr./Portland, Ore./Oregon Episcopal School) and Elyse Wanzenried (Jr./Minnetonka, Minn.) each totaled 11 kills to pace the Carleton offense. They hit .529 and .476, respectively. Not far behind was Katherine Miles (Sr./Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South), who added 10 kills of her own. Rookie Lauren Pak (Moraga, Calif./Campolindo) accumulated a match-best 40 kills on the night, and Katie Tritschler (Sr./Los Altos, Calif.) contributed 17 digs.

The Knights have a full week off before they return to action at St. Catherine University next Friday at 7:00 p.m. A live audio and video broadcast will be made available via Knights Online.
