Knights go 2-0 on day two of ACM Tournament

APPLETON, Wis. – The Carleton College volleyball team closed out play on day two of the ACM tournament with victories over host Lawrence University and Lake Forest College. The Knights earned a 3-1 win (16-25, 25-21, 25-16, 25-17) over Lawrence in the morning match before securing a hard-fought five-set victory over Lake Forest (25-19, 21-25, 25-17, 19-25, 16-14) during the afternoon session.

Carleton (6-1) dropped the opening set to Lawrence before rallying to win the next three games over the Vikings. Faith Skinner (Sr./La Crosse, Wis./Central) tallied 16 kills and hit .238 to lead the Knights offensive attack. Abby Loe (So./Apple Valley, Minn.) contributed 10 kills and hit .348, while Elyse Wanzenried (Sr./Minnetonka, Minn.) added five kills and 13 digs for Carleton.

Inger Shelton (Fy./San Diego, Calif./La Jolla) led the Knights with 23 assists to go along with four aces, while Natalie Mun (Fy./Long Grove, Ill./Stevenson) added 13 assists and nine digs.

The final match of the tournament saw the Knights require five games for the fourth time on the young season. Carleton gained the thrilling back-and-forth win over Lake Forest, closing out the Foresters 16-14 in the fifth and final set.

Loe led all attackers with 16 kills and a .441 hitting percentage, while Wanzenried added 12 kills, three blocks, and a pair of service aces. Olivia Powell (Jr./Palos Verdes Estates, Calif./Chadwick) also reached double-figures with 10 kills and three blocks.

Celeste Chen (Jr./Yorba Linda, Calif./Valentia) led all participants with 24 digs in the match, while Shelton and Mun tallied 25 and 19 assists, respectively.

The Knights open MIAC play this Wednesday, Sept. 12 with a 7 p.m. match at Macalester College.
