NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Cece Leone (So./Fairfax, Va./Bishop Ireton) turned in a solid all-around game—finishing with a game-high 13 points, seven rebounds, four steals, and two blocks—but the Carleton College women’s basketball team absorbed a 51-32 setback in a non-conference contest at Northwestern (Minn.).

With the polar vortex weather pattern settled in over Minnesota, the offenses for both teams went cold inside the Ericksen Center as the squads combined to shoot 33-of-102 (32 percent) overall, including a frigid 4-of-30 (13.3 percent) showing from beyond the arc.

Samantha Cooke (Fy./Chesterfield, Mo./Incarnate Word Academy) returned to the lineup for Carleton (1-7), but the Knights were without the services of point guard Katie Chavez (Fy./Westminster, Colo./Holy Family).

The Eagles (3-4) finished with 30-14 edge in points in the paint and pulled down 19 offensive rebounds.

Northwestern also had only one player in double figures—Amy Berglund, who finished with 10 points and nine rebounds—but the Eagles never trailed and overcame 16 turnovers.

Carleton will take a break for Christmas before returning to action for games against UW-Oshkosh and UW-Stout on Dec. 29-30, respectively, in Wisconsin Dells.
