ST. PAUL, Minn. – A fast start for the No. 2-ranked University of St. Thomas squad was more than the Carleton College women’s basketball could overcome in absorbing a 91-51 defeat.

The first time the Knights (8-15, 6-10 MIAC) battled the Tommies (23-0, 16-0 MIAC) this season, it was a two-point game midway through the second quarter. This time Carleton was playing without its leading scorer, Cece Leone (So./Fairfax, Va./Bishop Ireton), and saw St. Thomas race out to a 25-8 lead after the first quarter. Carleton was unable to close the gap as the Tommies shot 52.5 percent overall and 52.4 percent from beyond the arc.

Sarah Waldfogel (Jr./Minneapolis, Minn./The Blake School) paced the Knights with 10 points, while Katherine Miles (Jr./Park Ridge, Ill/Maine So.) and Anne Hamilton (Jr./Chanhassen, Minn./Minnetonka) contributed nine points apiece.

All-American Kaitlin Langer led four Tommies in double figures, scoring a game-high 21 points thanks to an 11-of-13 showing at the charity stripe.

The Knights remain on the road for a doubleheader at rival St. Olaf College on Wednesday, Feb. 15. The women’s game tips off at 5:45 p.m. with the men’s contest starting at 7:45 p.m. A live audio broadcast will be available on KDHL 920 AM in the Northfield/Faribault area as well as worldwide via Knights Online.
