ELMHURST, Ill. – The Carleton College women’s basketball team closed out the 2017 portion of its schedule with an 86-59 setback at Elmhurst College. The Knights have now alternated wins and losses over their last eight games.

Taking care of the basketball was not the problem for Carleton (5-5) as the Knights committed only seven turnovers, their lowest figure in at least 16 seasons. One primary issue was that Carleton shot only 36 percent from the field, while Elmhurst (5-5) connected on 55 percent of its attempts. The Bluejays also owned a decisive 46-21 advantage on the boards, including 11 offensive rebounds.

Carleton’s Samantha Cooke (So./Chesterfield, Mo./Incarnate Word Academy) knocked down a jumper to pull the Knights within 21-20 early in the second quarter, but Elmhurst went on an 18-6 run over the next 5:23 and maintained a double-digit advantage lead the rest of the way.

Cooke paced the Knights with 11 points, while Cece Leone (Jr./Fairfax, Va./Bishop Ireton) added 10 points.

Four players ended up in double figures for Elmhurst with Mikaela Eppard’s 28-point, 12-rebound game leading the way.

The Knights hit the court next for a Jan. 3 matchup with Gustavus Adolphus College. Tipoff at West Gym is slated for 7 p.m., and Knights Online will feature live video and live stats.
