NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Carleton College women’s basketball team put a scare into No. 24-ranked College of Saint Benedict before running out of gas late and absorbing a 68-59 setback. Sarah Waldfogel (Sr./Minneapolis, Minn./The Blake School) had a game-high 17 points to pace the Knights.

Carleton (7-15, 4-11 MIAC) was without the services of Samantha Cooke (So./Chesterfield, Mo./Incarnate Word Academy) and Anne Hamilton (Sr./Chanhassen, Minn./Minnetonka), yet the Knights raced out to a 22-12 lead and still held a 33-28 lead at halftime. A back-and-forth third quarter saw the lead change hands nine times, before the Blazers (20-2, 14-1 MIAC) inched in front late in the period. Katherine Miles’ (Sr./Park Ridge, Ill./Maine So.) layup with eight minutes still to go in the fourth quarter, pulled the Knights within 56-55, but Saint Benedict closed the game on a 12-4 run including eight points from Sidney Schiffler.

Nia Harris (Fy./Burnsville, Minn./The Blake School) matched her career best with 13 points off the bench. Katie Chavez (So./Westminster, Colo./Holy Family) added 11 points, four assists, and three steals.

Schiffler and Niki Fokken had 14 points apiece to pace Saint Benedict. Maddie Schmitz (12 points) and Kate Banovetz (11) also achieved double figures.

Carleton will wrap up the home portion of its schedule when the Knights celebrate Senior Day with a doubleheader against Concordia College. The men’s game begins at 1 p.m. with the women’s contest slated for a 3 p.m. start. Live video/stats of both games will be available via Knights Online.
