NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Carleton College women’s basketball team matched a team record with 13 three-pointers as the Knights routed rival St. Olaf College, 79-44, and maintained possession of the President’s Cup. Caroline Hull (Jr./Studio City, Calif./Campbell Hall) and Katie Chavez (So./Westminster, Colo./Holy Family) both drained four 3-pointers to lead the Carleton long-range attack.

Carleton (8-16, 5-12 MIAC) never trailed in the contest and built a 38-27 lead at halftime. The Knights stomped out any hopes of a St. Olaf (3-21, 1-16 MIAC) comeback as Carleton outscored the hosts 27-5 in the third quarter.

The Knights limited St. Olaf to 29 percent shooting as the Carleton defense simply did not allow St. Olaf to gain any offensive traction for the game. The Oles committed 24 turnovers as the Knights finished with a whopping 15 steals.

This is the most lopsided Knights victory over its Northfield neighbors since an 86-49 result on Feb. 16, 2002. This was Carleton’s widest margin of victory overall since an 84-41 victory over Saint Mary’s on Feb. 9, 2008.

Hull was a perfect 4-for-4 from beyond the arc and matched her career high with 12 points. Chavez had another strong performance, notching a game-high 19 points along with six rebounds, and five assists. Cece Leone (Jr./Fairfax, Va./Bishop Ireton) added 15 points on 7-of-11 shooting.

This is the fifth time in team history that the Knights made 13 three pointers. The other four times all came between Jan. 16-Dec. 14, 2013

Carleton concludes the season at Bethel University on Saturday, Feb. 17. Live audio of the 3 p.m. contest will be available via KDHL 920AM and Knights Online.
