Knights win meets in Oregon and Minnesota

ESTACADA , Ore. – Showcasing the depth on its roster, the No. 11-ranked Carleton College women’s cross country won two meets on Saturday, capturing the team title at both the Lewis & Clark Invitational in Estacada, Ore., as well as the crown at the St. Bonifacius Invitational closer to home.

In Oregon, the Knights claimed their third straight victory, winning the 12-team meet at McIver State Park with a score of 38 points. Carleton finished ahead of two other nationally-ranked squads, No. 19 Whitworth University (64 points) and No. 27 Linfield College (106 points). Colorado College took fourth place with a team score of 111, while the No. 6-ranked NAIA program in the country, Southern Oregon, finished fifth (119 points).

Carleton was paced yet again by sophomore Meg Mathison (Waunakee, Wis./Waunakee) and senior Emily Kaegi (Williamstown, Mass./Mount Greylock) as they finished third and fourth out of 124 racers with times of 21:34.0 and 21:48.7, respectively. Third for Carleton was Amanda Mosborg (Fy./Edina, Minn./Edina), who finished in seventh place with a time of 22:12.0 for the six-kilometer course.

Next for the Knights was Emma Greenlee (Fy./Aurora, Minn./Mesabi East) placing 11th with a time of 22:23.7. Rounding out the scoring for Carleton was Sam Schnirring (Jr./Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie), who finished in 16th place with a time of 22:46.8. The Knights placed nine runners in the top-30 of this race.

Carleton also had runners competing at the St. Bonifacious Invite hosted by Crown College. There, the Knights’ squad placed first out of four teams, with a near-perfect score (17).

Abby Sharer (Sr./Millstone Twp, NJ./Princeton Day), Sarah Nazarino (Jr./Seattle, Wash./Garfield), Lizzy Lynn (Jr./Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville), and Berit Hudson-Rasmusson (So./Champaign, Ill./University Laboratory) led the way for the Carleton as they combined on a 1-2-3-4 finish in the race of 50 runners, with times of 23:41, 24:26, 24:30, 24:31.

Next for the Knights and rounding out the scoring was Natalia Tu (Fy./New York, N.Y./Northfield Mount Hermon) who finished in seventh place with a time of 25:07.

Carleton is off next weekend and will begin to prepare for the 2017 MIAC Championships on Saturday, Oct. 28 at St. Olaf College.
