Well, the first full day of spring break is in the books. After settling in the house right off the beach here at Jekyll Island on Monday evening, we hit the course for our first round of 2010.
While the start was certainly rough for most of us as we shook off the rust from five months of not hitting on grass, I saw a lot of good shots on the back nine.
After taking a few hours in the middle of the day, we returned to the course for a practice session that lasted about two-and-a-half hours. The players worked very hard on a number of putting drills and competitions, and then we moved to the driving range before finally moving to the chipping and pitching area. As always, the ladies worked hard and focused in the things they needed to work on to improve their scores.
One thing our assistant coach, Scott Theriault, has stressed to the girls how important it is to convert chances from 50 yards and less in three shots or less. So we’ll track that statistic the rest of the week and see how we do in this category.
Tomorrow we’re back for 18 holes and more practice before Thursday’s practice round. We’ll also head over to St. Simons Island and play Sea Island Golf Club, the site of a new fall event on the PGA Tour.
