ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The Carleton College women's soccer team scored a big 3-2 overtime win against Bethel University last week to remain unbeaten in conference play and tied for first place. Junior Bailey Ulbricht (Severna Park, Md.) was the offensive star in the win, as the midfielder scored both of the Knights' regulation goals to help the team reach overtime, where it pulled out the victory. For her big performance, Ulbricht was named the MIAC Women's Soccer Athlete-of-the-Week.
Ulbricht's two big goals against Bethel both came in the first half as she started the scoring by connecting from 22 yards out just 18:14 into the game to give Carleton a 1-0 lead. After the Royals tied the score, Ulbricht had an answer to put her team back in the lead less than two minutes later when she slipped a chip shot past the keeper at 35:13. Ulbricht now has four goals in 2013, tied for the eighth-most in the MIAC, to go along with three assists. Her 11 points also rank eighth in the conference.
Carleton's big win helped it improve to 5-3-1 overall and 3-0 in conference play, where its nine points share the league lead with Augsburg and Saint Benedict. The Knights will hit the road for a pair of big conference matches this week starting Wednesday with a 4 p.m. showdown with St. Catherine in St. Paul. Saturday, Carleton will meet another team atop the standings when it travels to St. Joseph to face Saint Benedict in a huge MIAC match, which is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
