NORTHFIELD, Minn. -- Despite a dominant showing from the Carleton College women’s soccer team, Concordia College snuck out of town with a 2-1 overtime victory. This was the Knights’ second overtime contest of the week.

Carleton (5-3-1, 1-2-2 MIAC) took an impressive 20 shots compared to only four for the Cobbers (4-5-1, 2-3-0 MIAC). The Knights also held a 7-to-0 edge in corner kicks.

The first goal of the day came from Concordia’s Kayla Dostal, who shot off the crossbar shot crossed the line before spinning back out in the 39th minute.

Carleton began the second-half determined to draw level, and after an offsides called back what appeared to be the equalizer, the Knights only pressed harder. Co-captain Madeline Topf (Sr./Ames, Iowa/Ames) managed to secure that goal in the 65th minute after weaving through defenders and slotting home a well-placed shot from the top of the box.

The deadlock remained until Concordia knocked in the game-winner on the first and only shot of the overtime period. Kalli Baarstad’s long free kick trickled home in the 97th minute, giving the visitors the three precious points in the standings.

The Knights travel to take on Macalester College next on Oct. 4 in St. Paul, Minn. Kickoff is at 7:30pm at Macalester Stadium.
