ST. PAUL, Minn. –  For the first time in four matches, the Carleton College women’s soccer team did not end up playing overtime. However, that did not make Saturday’s result any easier to accept as the Knights dropped a 3-0 decision at MIAC foe University of St. Thomas.

The Knights (5-4-2, 1-3-2 MIAC) held their own against the regionally-ranked Tommies (8-2-1, 4-2-0 MIAC) over the first half. The two teams went into the intermission tied at zero, however, it was Carleton who had the edge in shots on goal, with Nora Mertz (So./Evanston, Ill./Evanston) forcing Tommie keeper Katie Lynn to make two saves within the first ten minutes of the game.

After the break it was a different story. Tessa Trettel scored the game-winning goal for St. Thomas in the 47th minute, and Mallory DeBroom and Hailey Zweber scored insurance goals in the 72nd and 73rd minutes to complete the scoring.

Anna Roethler (Fy./St Louis Park, Minn./St Louis Park) was a strong presence in goal for Carleton, shutting down many crossing attempts, as well as stopping eight shots, the second-highest total of her career.

Carleton will look to get back on the winning track on Tuesday, Oct. 10 when it hosts Northfield rival St. Olaf College at 4 p.m. Knights Online will provide live video and live stat coverage.
