NORTHFIELD, Minn. -- The Carleton College women’s soccer team dropped a 4-1 result to No. 19-ranked UW-La Crosse in a non-conference match on Wednesday. Emma Wasend (So./Denver, Colo./George Washington) got on the board for the Knights, but it was not enough against the Eagles, who notched their eighth straight victory.

Alex Cording and Maddie Granos scored for UW-La Crosse (13-1-2) in the first half, and the Eagles outshot Carleton (5-6-3) by a 16-10 margin in the first 45 minutes.

After the break Margaret Harings and Hayley Hargroder scored the final two goals for the visitors. Wasend found the back of the net for her first career goal when she ran down a pass from Laura Kiernan (So./Madison, Wis./Madison West) in the left flat and curled the ball into the far side of the net in the 83rd minute.

The up-and-down match featured a whopping 45 shots between the two squads, with 20 of those attempts on goal. Anna Roethler (Fy./St Louis Park, Minn./St Louis Park) finished with nine saves for the home team, her second-highest figure of the season.

Carleton turns its attention back to conference play as the Knights are currently in 10th place in the MIAC with three games to play and will need to win out and have some help from the rest of the league to grab the sixth and final MIAC playoff spot.

The Knights will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 21 as Carleton hosts a men’s-women’s doubleheader against Bethel University. The women’s match is slated for a 3:30 p.m., and Knights Online will provide live video and stats of both matches.
