NORTHFIELD, Minn. – On a day more fitting for a swim meet then a soccer match, the Carleton College women’s soccer team were defeated by cross-town rival St. Olaf College, 2-0, in the rain.

St. Olaf (8-2-2, 5-1-1 MIAC) got out to an early lead. In the ninth minute, Mackenzie Schoustra collected a pass from Claire Bash at the top right corner of the box and drilled a shot into the bottom left corner of the net. The rest of the half was played to a stalemate as the Knights (6-2-4, 2-2-3 MIAC) trailed 6-4 in terms of shots for the period.

In the second half, Carleton came close to equalizing but were unable to find the scoring touch. Annika Martensson (St./Wauwatosa, Wis./Divine Savior Holy Angels) had the best opportunities in the second half, including a shot in the 74th minute which drew a diving save from the St. Olaf keeper.

Schoustra added an insurance tally in the 90th minute.

Overall, St. Olaf held a 13-10 edge in shots, but the Knights put the Oles under pressure by taking all six cornerkicks in the match, including five in the second half.

Dealing with the extreme weather, Anna Roethler (So./St Louis Park, Minn./St Louis Park) finished with six saves on the day.

The Knights will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 13 when they host Augsburg University at 1:00 p.m. That will be the opener of a women’s-men’s doubleheader. Knights Online will have live stats and video for both contests.
